Stripe-to-Stripe subscription migration

Move active Stripe subscriptions to the destination account—with a cutover you can verify

Migrate active Stripe subscriptions to another account with customer mapping, preserved billing dates, dry runs, controlled source deactivation, and audit evidence.

The direct answer

Stripe Customer Data Copy can copy eligible customer and payment data, but it does not move existing subscription objects. Stripe’s Billing Migration Toolkit can import and recreate subscriptions in a destination account. MoveMRR adds catalog mapping, readiness checks, dry runs, controlled source deactivation, reconciliation, and an audit trail for teams that need a complete Stripe-to-Stripe handover.

What “transfer” means inside Stripe

A subscription is not moved as the same Stripe object. Eligible customer and payment data is copied through Stripe, while products, prices, coupons, and subscriptions are recreated or imported in the destination. This means identifiers change and the source and destination states must be reconciled deliberately.

What MoveMRR controls around Stripe’s primitives

MoveMRR builds a reviewable workflow around the two accounts. It helps teams recreate or map the billing catalog, upload Stripe’s customer mapping, preview planned actions, validate readiness, preserve renewal timing, create destination subscriptions, and deactivate source subscriptions only after the configured safety conditions pass.

  • Restricted keys for separate source and destination permissions.
  • Product, price, coupon, customer, and payment-method mapping coverage.
  • Dry runs and planned-action review before the live run.
  • Idempotent execution, audit logs, rollback controls, and exported mappings.

What the team must still own

The buyer or operator remains responsible for Stripe approval, account eligibility, application deployment, database references, webhook routing, tax and accounting, unsupported payment methods, customer communications, and monitoring future renewals. MoveMRR makes those dependencies visible; it does not make them disappear.

A controlled workflow

  1. 1

    Confirm the account path

Ask Stripe whether ownership transfer or a new destination account is appropriate.

  2. 2

    Connect scoped account access

Use separate restricted keys and validate only the permissions required for the workflow.

  3. 3

    Prepare catalog and customer mappings

Map destination products and prices, then use Stripe’s copied-customer mapping output.

  4. 4

Run readiness checks and a dry run

Resolve missing mappings, unsupported states, and near-renewal risk before launch.

  5. 5

    Migrate, deactivate, and reconcile

Create destination subscriptions, apply the configured source action, export mappings, and monitor renewals.

Limits to verify before migration

  • MoveMRR never receives or handles raw card numbers.
  • Stripe controls Customer Data Copy, account-pair eligibility, and supported payment methods.
  • Copied payment data does not guarantee that every future payment succeeds without issuer authentication.
  • New Stripe objects have new IDs; application and database updates are not optional.

Frequently asked questions

Can Stripe subscriptions be transferred to another account?

They can be recreated or imported in the destination account, but the existing subscription objects are not moved unchanged. Customer mapping, catalog mapping, timing, source deactivation, and application updates still need coordination.

Does Stripe have its own subscription migration tool?

Yes. Stripe’s Billing Migration Toolkit supports CSV-based imports, including Stripe-to-Stripe migrations. MoveMRR is designed for teams that also need a guided two-account workflow, catalog automation, dry runs, source-side controls, reconciliation, and an audit trail.

Will customers have to enter payment details again?

Eligible payment data can be copied by Stripe without a new signup. Some methods and account pairs are excluded, and an issuer may still require authentication on a future payment.

Can renewal dates be preserved?

Future billing dates can be aligned when the source data and destination configuration support it. The dry run and readiness review should identify exceptions before live creation.
